Ready To Dance! Are you excited for your first dance as a married couple? Maybe you or your partner are feeling a little nervous. Maybe you’re a little overcome with both emotions and just don’t know where to start. Whatever you are feeling, you’re not alone. I have guided countless couples through their first dance as a married couple and I would be honored to help guide you!
Your first dance should be something you can enjoy and remember for the rest of your lives. You can make it anything from simple and comfortable to flashy performance choreography or anything in between. Whatever you choose, at Santa Fe Dancing, you will learn more than just steps for your first dance, you will learn how to connect with your partner to create a dance that is truly unique to you. I will guide you through the entire process of your first dance from the moment you enter the dance floor until you exit. I will consult with you on what to communicate with your band/DJ and wedding coordinator so your first dance will be presented as smooth and flawless as possible. I will also show you how to take what you have learned and apply it to social dancing with your guests. It is never too late or too early to prepare for your first dance. A Little Bit About Me:
I am from Santa Fe born and raised. I have over 16 years of experience teaching as well as performing various styles of partner dancing in and around the Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas. I have taught lesson sizes from a single person private lesson to over a hundred people in a group class. I have experience in event staging, as a wedding coordinator, managing performance teams, and as a choreographer, but my passion is for dance. I enjoy working with beginner dancers as well as experienced dancers. But I truly enjoy seeing the light in my student’s eyes when they realize dance doesn’t have to be so scary after all.

Cheryl is a fantastic, fun and kind instructor. We not only worked with her for our first dance but also went on to take a series or two of her west coast swing workshops. Cheryl is patient, kind and a good listener. She helped us select music, choreographed something simple yet interesting and helped make our first dance a great success. After taking her west coast swing workshops, we are now ready to dance anywhere at any time to pretty much any music! It's a great dance form. What a gift Cheryl Noonan was to my wife and I. She is a talented dancer for sure but also a gifted instructor. She is one that can both do and teach. We did both a class and private lessons. We wanted to get ready for our son's wedding and it worked! If you sign up for a class make sure Cheryl in your instructor and do some private lessons as well. She has a great attention to detail and provides feedback in a way that doesn't make you feel clumsy or awkward. Although we were beginners we saw she worked well with those that were quite good as well as those that thought they were quite good. All four of our left feet appreciated Cheryl!
Amazing first dance
We took wedding dance lessons with Cheryl and it was fantastic. Neither of us have ever done partner dancing before but she broke each lesson down very nicely and described each movement well. She was patient and fun to work with. Surprisingly my now husband ended up being amazing at it. It was so great to feel confident during our first dance instead of doing the awkward first dance sway so many couples do. Absolutely worth the time and money!

What About Music?
If you have your song already picked out, great! If not, that’s ok too. I would be happy to help you narrow down the options. Once your song is selected, we will work on a dance style that suits your music.
What Should We Wear?
Wear any clothes that you are comfortable dancing in. If possible, I highly recommend to wear your wedding shoes on your lessons. Shoes can feel different when you dance in them as opposed to just walking. Wearing your wedding shoes on your lessons will allow you to feel how well you can move in them and give you a chance to break them in before your big day.
How Many Lessons Will We Need?
This depends on how extravagant you would like your first dance to be as well as how much time you are willing to commit. On average, I have found, couples who want a beautiful first dance and are willing to put in some practice time outside of the studio, only need about 5-10 lessons. Something more extravagant could take 10-15 lessons. While couples who just want to feel comfortable moving together can achieve this in 5 lessons or less.
When Should We Start?
It is never too late or too early to start dance lessons for your wedding. Ideally, starting no less than 3 months out would give you time to create a fun and beautiful first dance without adding needless stress. However, even if it’s the day before your wedding, we can still create something that will make you feel comfortable and at ease on your wedding day.
