Old Adobe Wedding {Ted + Dena}

Located in Algodones, New Mexico, Ted Kircher and Dena Fahlquist tied the knot at the rustic Hacienda Vargas. About a 25-mile drive north of Albuquerque, Hacienda Vargas is surrounded by a picturesque, New Mexico landscape — the perfect backdrop to say, “I do.”

As UNM alum, the pins from their fraternity and sorority adorned Dena’s bouquet to signify their introduction at a UNM Greek Life meeting. Not only are these two smart, but they have great taste! Their pins are one of many unique details hidden in the southwest ambiance they created in their wedding — typical of a masterpiece you might see in a local museum or old hacienda.

After exchanging vows, which their dog Victoria played a special role, Ted and Dena also partook in a private rose ceremony with their parents and grandparents in a 200-year old adobe chapel, untouched since its construction. In honor of Ted’s mother, who passed away six months before they started dating, Dena wore her gold ring as “something borrowed.” They concluded with a wine ceremony, which Dena explains,

Parents and grandparents wrote letters to us with a bottle of wine placed into a rustic box to be opened at our one year anniversary.

To announce their introduction as man and wife, a 100-year-old bell was rung as they made their way to their reception. Historically, this old bell was used to warn the town of emergencies, but now fills a new purpose — to sound off a celebration! And to top it off, every time the Rail Runner or Amtrak trains blew their whistles passed the reception in congratulations, their guests cheered and gave toasts to the new pair!
