Not everyone likes cake!  In this day and age there are so many other options. Lets explore together…  Read on brides!

Wedding planning can be a lot of fun, especially when you keep in mind that you’ll be gaining a life partner at the end of the long and sometimes tedious journey. If you’re at the point in planning where it’s time to consider the type of sweets that will be served at your upcoming nuptials, the important thing to remember is you should be able to have your cake and eat it too, so to speak.

If you and your husband-to-be are a bit less traditional than some couples, it could be fun to ditch the cake altogether for a dessert with a bit more character. Huffington Post Wedding and Glamour magazine recently listed the best wedding cakes, pies and more to help couples mark one more item off their wedding planning checklist. Here are some of the most unique (and tastiest) ideas:

Mini pies
Pies, especially individualized ones, are a great option for couples looking to have a laid-back spring or summer wedding. Not only do these tasty treats allow guests to try a variety of flavors, they’ll also emphasize the easy, carefree atmosphere of the event.

You can personalize these pies with your married monogram. Ask the baker of the pies to cut out pieces of pie crust in the shape of you and your future husband’s initials and place them on the top of each pie. If monograms aren’t your cup of tea, you could also ask for a heart cutout or another symbol that represents your love.

HuffPo adds couples who want a cake plus a few tasty extras could consider having a table full of delicious and adorable pie pops. Think of these as the cake pops of 2013 – they consist of tiny pies that are baked and placed on popsicle sticks so guests can eat them on the go.

Donut delight
There is perhaps no better smell than that of freshly baked donuts, so guests are sure to be pleased if you and your man opt to have a donut bar as your main dessert. Glamour reports donuts seem to be stealing the thunder from cupcakes this year, meaning having them at your upcoming nuptials will put you right on trend.

The donuts you’ll be serving up don’t have to be the regular run-of-the-mill varieties. Instead, they can be made using charming and ultra chic flavors and colors. The experts suggest offering delicious mini churros served with passionfruit dipping sauce and warm chocolate or donuts with frosting in your wedding colors.

What do you think? Would you serve donuts or mini pies at your wedding reception? Leave a comment!
